Balázs Bodnár, Executive Director of evopro is the new Secretary General of MATE

Celebrating its 60th anniversary the Scientific Society For Measurement, Automation And Informatics (known by its Hungarian abbreviation as MATE) has held its election assembly on May 9th. This day is also of special importance to evopro, because the society has elected Balázs Bodnár to its Secretary General position for the next 4 years.

MATE is a social organization whose main purpose is to cultivate a social forum for the scientific fields of measurement and automation and for their applications. The formation of the Society is closely tied to the birth of the Hungarian measurement industry. Its membership was built on such recognized professional workshops as EMG, Gamma Works, MMG, Medicor, MOM, Metripond and the Ganz Műszer Művek (Ganz Instrument Works). The Műszeripari Kutató Intézet (Instrument Industry Research Institute) and the Méréstechnikai Központi Kutató Laboratórium (Central Research Laboratory of Metrology) have also existed once. After the collapse of communism the significant industrial background has disappeared from underneath MATE – it is now kept alive and operated by its members. The Society still considers its important mission to provide a forum for experts in the field of metrology, control technology, and automation where they can share their theoretical, educational, developmental, standardization and application expertise with each other. MATE is trying to keep the profession stimulated by participating in exhibitions, organizing conferences, and by supporting research organizations.

The most important task of MATE's new leadership is the rethinking of the goals of the society and establishing a basis for further operations. In this they count on the help of those who are proud of Hungary's historical measurement industry and who are ready to build on and revive those traditions.
